1.Self-Sufficient Time
Long time ago, and I mean very long, before the pirates ever ventured through the sea (and dinosaurs were roaming around the earth,) people did not have such thing as money. They were self-sufficient. This means that they made everything they needed themselves such as clothing, food, house... and of course, toys too.

However, as you know, one person can only do so much. They couldn't possibly make everything on their own. So, they began to trade.
