Coolest Places in Korea

Mt. Sorak
As cooler temperature moves towards the Korean Peninsula and autumn foliage begin to turn gold and crimson, the scenic peaks guarding the valleys of the Mt. Sorak beckon Korean and foreign tourists to visit. The Mt. Sorak Range, which is a part of the Diamond (Kumgang) Mountains, is considered one of nature's best.

Mt. Sorak is located along the eastern coast north of Kangnung City, and can be easily reached by the express bus that offers travelers the unsurpassable scenery along the way. . Sokcho, a coastal town that serves as the gateway to Mt. Sorak can be reached by airplane from Seoul in less than one hour. Several tourist hotels are available as well as numerous affordable inns. During the high season, it is recommended that reservations be made through travel agencies. The Soraksan Range is divided into two parts, inner Sorak and outer Sorak. For more adventurous hikers, there are the valleys of inner Sorak near Paektamsa Temple, which is still virtually untouched by commercialization. However, outer Sorak, which is just as enchanting, has been more urbanized. Shingungsa, the main temple, is only a 10-15 minute walk from the tourist hotels. There are several other ancient temples in the region.
